The Virtual Kent Project, or vKent, is an Internet-based directory of businesses and events in the Kent community.

What is the advantage of advertising on the Internet?

The Internet is accessible to every one of Kent State's students, as well as many home and business users. The Internet also allows businesses to provide continually-updated information to current and potential clients. For example, by using vKent:

• specialty shops can reach a national, rather than local, customer base
• take-out restaurants can display the latest menu, prices, and specials
• book, record, and video stores can keep customers appraised of new releases
• clubs, bars, and coffeehouses can publicize upcoming shows and special events

Why get a listing on vKent?

One of the problems with the Internet is that the information that customers are looking for is often hard to find. vKent puts everything at one convenient, easy to remember address: www.vkent.com. Every member gets a static sticker for their storefront to display their membership in the Virtual Kent community. As the project grows, its value to the entire community grows as well.

What is the October Group?

The October Group is a Kent-based design and consulting firm dedicated to bringing top-quality computing and graphic design services to northeast Ohio businesses and individuals at highly competitive prices. The October Group shares with its clients the expertise and experience of seasoned designers and programmers, utilizing the talents of former employees and contractors of Apple Computer, IBM, BF Goodrich, Kent State University, and the US Department of Energy.

What if a business already has a web page elsewhere?

If an existing page already meets a local business's needs, a link will be provided from the main vKent site to the outside page. If not, a new page will be created on vKent to the member's exact specifications.
