Have you tried using the HTML and JS based AIM client? I have found this to work when my school decided to block the apps and ports required. Furthurmore, when my school finally got wise to everyone using aim.com, they subsequently blocked that site so we all moved to one of the many foreign sites for AIM. (eg: http://www.aol.co.uk/aim/aimexpress/)
