The old rule of journalism didn't stop a wire service from running a story about a fender bender between Nick Nolte and Rosanna Arquette, sourced only from this post in the excellent but apparently satirical site, Nick Nolte's Diary. What's especially wild is that the Fox affiliates that picked up the story ran file photos of Nolte from previous court appearances alongside the story to lend it credibility.
Update 10/19: E! Online News has more, including interviews with the site's authors and Nolte's publicist.
Is the Nick Nolte's Diary site for real? My friend says it has to be a parody. I say it can't, if it were, it wouldn't be nearly as funny. Please advise.
Would Fox News publish an article without verifying its validity? I think not! Therefore, Nick Nolte Diary is legitimate.

Although the blog is well written, I think it's a scam.
# Why nicknoltediary.com? Why not include it in his official site?
# Why don't Nolte or his agent promote the site? There are no links in Google, aside from the actual site.
# Why is the site registered to a Christian Newton, d.b.a. "NND Group", presumably Nick Nolte Diary Group? When I Google for that guy, I find iFilm listings for a UC Berkely film student.
# Christian Newton's address is listed as 501 Privacy Lane, Santa Monica, 90402. No such street exists.
# NN's blog entry for September 11 has him picking up newspapers in his yard. But the National Post says he was in Toronto, promoting Hotel Rwanda and drinking at the film fest.
Yeah, that's some sleuthing. I'd say the E! Online article mentioned above has the final word on the whole deal.
