The site's fallen back into disrepair, although this time there's something of an excuse: there have been a lot of things going on, and a lot more to come.
I've lived in Tampa about two years now, and although I've met a lot of great people and done a lot of new things, it's never felt like home to me. Concurrently, I've watched the field of web design implode around me, offering less creative and professional returns in exchange for learning technology that seems to be continually considered bottom-tier among programmers.
So, on both counts, I'm leaving. As of later this month, I'll no longer be working as an in-house designer, and unless an amazing personal or professional opportunity shows itself before I lose my nerve, I'm leaving Tampa as well.
So what's next?
I still enjoy the process of design, and learning new technology, and hopefully you'll see that reflected here. I want to focus on projects that are closer to me, while I try and decide on my next course of action, be it grad school, acting school, or some extension of what I'm already doing. It's time to take ownership of my life, and that's going to take some time to relax and figure out.
Where next?
Everything's up in the air at the moment, but for now, the rough sketch is:
September: Tampa, as I finish up my final project at HireCheck and tie up some loose ends.
October: Kent, Ohio, where I went to school, and still my favorite town. It's been two years since I've seen a real Autumn; it's not going to be three.
November: New Orleans, to check it out while my buddy Bryan gets settled in.
December: Las Vegas, which I enjoyed more than I expected, to see Joey Vegas, Tommy, Carey, Sandy, and Shannon. Should be good times.
What else is new?
I bought a motorcycle and have been busy learning to ride it. A few bruises and scrapes so far, but it's been a good experience... one of the few truly new things I've challenged myself to do in some time, a challenge that's helped give me the courage to do everything mentioned above.
Wish me luck. Keep in touch.
Todd

Hahaha. Someone at work was just making fun of my hand gestures. So I was like, "If I gave five-weeks' notice last month, and I walk out today, it still counts as two weeks' notice, right?" Everyone fell silent; no one laughed.
I would have. Some people have no sense of humor.
