Thank God I'm not in tech support

Any time questions in the company arise surrounding graphics and the like, they eventually make their way over to me. I get a kick out of it, because I get to meet just about everyone in the company, and they're usually softball questions, a welcome break from my daily routine.

This time, someone has scanned something directly to a PDF, and it's come out upside down. They can't modify the PDF because they only have the reader; the scanning software just happens to have some special Acrobat plug in. I have the writer, so can I help them out?

Sure, I'll take a look. Well, it turns out that it's not as easy as one might imagine. So much so, that it would be easier just to rescan the document; it's only two pages.

"But every time I rescan it, it comes out upside down!" my coworker tells me. "Do you think there's some setting or something I can change to keep it from doing that?"

I make a little tent with my fingertips, pressing my index fingers to my lips, while trying to figure out how to put this reassuringly: "You... Hmm... You might want to... turn the paper the other way around before putting it in the scanner."

"Do you really think that will work?"

"I think it might."
