Michael Moore: Death, Downtown
"Someone on welfare is flying my plane? Is this for real? Yes, it is. So spare me the talk about all the precautions the airlines and the FAA is taking. They, like all businesses, are concerned about one thing: the bottom line and the profit margin."
Why have we not considered aiding those millions of victims of bin Laden and the Taliban's gruesome acts beforehand? Is anyone ever really concerned about human rights violations- Not unless our concern leads to political or monetary gain.
So rather than aiding the Afghanistan victims- making them stronger to stand up against the Taliban, lets blow their fucking eyes out! Hey starving cripples make easier targets, right?
Oh and Gaddafi, do we see you disrobing, going out into the trenches and saving children??
perhaps because the moral highground is available for consideration only once the issue has been presented in the media, spun, mulled over, and then condemned. also remember that our access to information is blurred by the corporate sponsorship and political alliances of the 'news' organizations [unless you too listen to s.o.a.d. like all good rebellious youth]. examples abound from armenia [note the s.o.a.d. reference] to ruwanda, but never forget that even in our own backyard murder is a business decision to be weighed against the potential drop in revenue it may cause if mentioned on the news and not properly spun.
please don't misinterpret my point, i believe we should stop all of the violence - worldwide [which means here as well]. but our very presence in the region is what 'bin laden' has cited as cause for the activities of al queada. note also the strength of conviction on the other side of the table: the taliban may call for a 'holy war' against the u.s. if we proceed with military action. and there are rallies played on cnn of dancing and chanting arabs burning american flags and people and other stuff sitting around. whether these are staged, or even what is being said i obviously have no clue, but the people don't look happy. and in case you haven't seen what those 'cruise missiles' did to whatever they hit, it also did not look good [actually a little like lower manhattan]. how then is assistance offered to those that hate and fear what the offerer represents and is. particularly in light of recent events.
by the way, funding terrorists is how the wtc towers fell, are you suggesting we fund some more?
and since i'm here: how does one separate the victims from the non-victims? and what does aid mean? kill the oppressive government? which one? give them food? build some infrastructure? give them money? make them a u.s. territory/colony? trade with them? or kill all of them once they call for a holy war since they would then be dying in service of their god and be going to paradise in the process?
