Rio red boxes and pinup/porno interviews

Wired: Rio Sings Toll-Free Calling Tune
"By playing a series of tones at a precise frequency, which are muted in the handset speaker, 'boxers' fool phone company computers into believing that the caller is depositing coins, allowing for illegal long-distance dialing."

In a related press release, Diamond Multimedia today announced a new USB version of the Rio MP3 player due out in August that is compatible with both Macs and PCs.

Nerve: 251 Men in 10 hours? Amy Goodman Interviews Annabel Chong
"...For me a lot of it's humor, because there's this stereotype of the stud who fucks anything that moves and this is a parody of what men are supposed to be like."

Nerve: Not the Pin-Up We Played Her For: An Interview with Bettie Page
"I sometimes tried to look sexy but couldn't pull it off. Marilyn Monroe could pull it off; I couldn't. I thought I looked ridiculous in those shots where I was trying to be sexy."

MoJo Wire: Depleted Uranium: The Invisible Threat
"NATO used depleted uranium munitions in Kosovo. Now, critics are concerned that DU contamination may cause serious health problems for returning refugees."

Utne: Emotional Intelligence Test
"How bright are you outside the classroom, when it comes to life's stickier moments? There you need other kinds of resourcefulness -- most especially emotional intelligence, a different way of being smart."

The first time I took it, I started thinking too much about the four-year-old girl who was crying because no one would play with her. I wanted to play with her, so the other kids would wonder what was going on and come over to check it out. Anyway, it sounds really silly, but I got so distracted by the question (I mean, I'm going to have a four-year-old daughter one day; what am I going to do?) that I couldn't focus well on the other questions. So I took the test and got an 80 (on a scale of 0 to 200). On four of the questions, I debated back and forth, so I went back and changed them. With my new answers I got an 85. I guess this explains my life lately.
